Leeds is changing.
2006 saw the skies dotted with cranes as
new buildings went up. The completion of the
redevelopment of Briggate and King Edward
Street co-incided with new plans for the
development of Eastgate and the area
beyond the Victoria Quarter.

The Briggate.com photographic project is the
first of a series of projects which will follow
these developments.

The city of Leeds began to take shape when, in 1207, Briggate was opened up to trade and retail. The compact city centre of Leeds has been largely pedestrianized. The shopping malls and arcades of Leeds will be the focus of the next major project, leading off from the Briggate project in the way that so many arcades lead off Briggate itself. A separate project on Kirkgate Market will be developed, hopefully in collaboration with the Market Traders Association.
The new residential quarter south of Wellington Street and the rail station will be the focus of yet another of the 'transformations' projects. This project will look at city living and how the new residents make themselves at home in the heart of the city. No doubt there will be other associated projects too.
